The critique process works by describing, analysing, interpreting, and judging. In class we describe what we like about it, what can be improved, and what we would have done to improve it. The piece I want to critique would be my portrait piece because it is so ugly and I can explain why. I think I did the measuring right but everything is very flat so one way to fix that would be to practice cross contour and then have my pen strokes go in the direction of my face. And another thing is that the drawing looks very lopsided and I think that this could have been solved if I made the photo black and white, drew a grid and photoshopped a grid with the same amount of squares on the photo and then shade my drawing square by square. 1 List some reasons that an artist would need to use observation when making artwork. Observation is very important in art because art is mostly rendering images yourself with pen and pencil. As you grow as an artist you gain the skills to draw from life just by observing. Art is mostly learning to see, you could be a beginning artist but still make great drawings because you understand the shape and form of an object. 2 What was the warm up or sketchbook assignment that you learned the most from? The warm up that I learned the most from was the sign language hand drawings. I used to always struggle with drawing hands but after these warm ups my hand drawings are looking better. 3 Regardless of whether a project was successful or not, describe the one where you learned, grew, or developed the most from? The project that I learned the most from was the vessel project. It took a long time to finish and as I was building it (while the clay was still wet) I sprayed it too much that it ended up cracking, so I learned no to do that anymore, but the main problem was how I glazed it. I was so worried on how I was gonna make this vessel with an octopus on the side that I didn't stop to think if how I was going to color and glaze it. I was so insecure that I ended up putting on a underglaze and a silicon glaze after so because I took too long and because I touched it with my bare hands the glaze ended up cracking and peeling. So in there future I will add color to my idea sketch and I will try to avoid touching it a lot. Illustration Fridays have been completed almost every week this semester, do you feel this assignment helped you brainstorm for main project or helped you skill levels in any way? Why, or why not? I think that it's important to draw often, even if what you draw ends up not looking great. And illustration fridays gets people in the habit of drawing weekly. And with a different theme every week people learn to think a little creatively on what to draw.
